IKEA - Data Ethics

During the first half of 2020 I consulted IKEA on Motion Design for their new app & webb together with Work & Co. My first project was to create an animated flow for IKEA's new initiative & promise around privacy and data ethics, putting the user in control over their data in a simple and transparent way. The video was to be presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, where Barbara Martin Coppola, Chief Digital Officer at IKEA held a workshop with a selected group of privacy and ethic experts.

Barbara Martin Coppola,

Chief Digital Officer for Ingka Group

'Should companies continue to use other peoples’ data, as if it was their own? We have taken a stand that we will give back the control over their data to the customers. Our privacy policy today is following industry standard, and it’s not there. Users don’t understand what they sign on to. They don’t trust companies, and there is a lack of transparency. We will change this and put data ethics at the core of everything.'

In the past the user has had to read through a long privacy policy text to get an understanding on how their data is being used. These designs are giant step forward on transparency, and being able to create motion to enhance that UX flow has been an honor.
